Val Martello, a side valley in the tourist region of
Val Venosta, is distinguished by its many contrasts. It extends for
more than 20 km, from an altitude of 950 m to the peak of Cevedale at 3,769 m,
and lies in the heart of the Stelvio Nature Park. In both
summer and winter, Martello is a very popular destination for excursions and, at
the same time, a much visited holiday resort.
As the highest and
largest strawberry growing area in Europe, in recent years Val Martello
has became known far beyond the borders of South Tyrol. Thanks to the ideal
climate conditions and the pure mountain air, Val Martello strawberries are
particularly sweet and tasty. Every year, in the last week in June, at the
Strawberry Festival, everything in the sunny valley in South Tyrol is focussed
on this red fruit. A giant strawberry cake and the crowning of the
Strawberry Queen are the high spots of the event.
But Martello,
in Val Venosta, can also enchant lovers of culture. Tourists can visit the
Chapel of Santa Maria at the Foundry, the dam, known as the
“Bau” by the local inhabitants, and the Culturamartell Visitors’ Centre
in the Stelvio Nature Park. This charming resort is also an ideal base for
exploring other attractions in the vicinity, such as the Latsch Menhir
or Schloss Goldrain. In short: Val Martello, in Val Venosta,
has lots to offer!
